Serving Galveston's Jewish Families Since 1900

Our cemetery predates the formation of the Congregation Beth Jacob (CBJ) by approximately thirty years.  Until 1907 Jewish immigration through Galveston from Eastern Europe was a trickle until the "The Galveston Plan".  The Plan brought 10,000 Jews to America through Galveston's port between 1907 and 1914. Many continued their journey inland in all directions.

Those who stayed in Galveston helped build the community and the new synagogue Congregation Beth Jacob.  Interned at CBJ Cemetery are the founders and congregants of the Shul and many of their decedents.

In 2000 The Shul board conveyed the cemetery to a separate not-for-profit corporation governed by a board that meets quarterly to review the financial status of the corporation and the condition of the property.

Plots Available in Mixed Marriage Section

We have completed designating a section of plots for the

burial of non-Jewish spouses with their Jewish spouse

and/or their unmarried children.

The section was created per the instructions provided

by the Rabbinical Assembly of the Conservative Movement.

Eight of the 32 plots in the section have already been reserved.

Please let family members or friends who would be interested in such accommodation, know about our new section.

All burials in this new section follow the same procedures

that the Cemetery has always required.
